Twenty-three of the 30 Singaporeans involved in the sand dune accident in Perth

Twenty-three of the 30 Singaporeans involved in the sand dune accident in Perth have been discharged from hospital and will be heading home. Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday said they are making plans to return to Singapore in the next few days. The remaining seven people are still hospitalised in Perth.

The statement said the Singapore High Commission in Canberra and the ministry would continue to provide all necessary assistance to them. The Singaporeans were in a four-wheel-drive tour bus that rolled down a sand dune in the north of Perth on Sunday. The driver and most of the 33 passengers on board were injured.

Earlier, the police in Perth said that five people remained in hospital, including one man in a critical condition with bleeding in the neck, and a woman who is in a serious condition with a broken neck. The Desert Storm 4WD Adventures bus, which has monster truck-style wheels and suspension, was attempting to reverse down a sand dune on the outskirts of Lancelin when it tipped onto its side.

"It's fortunate the vehicle is very purpose-built (for off-road driving)," senior constable Matt Tucker told reporters.

"It's lucky it wasn't going up a larger dune."
